Clever, well done. Never seen that before.
Looks like it works quite well. Good idea. I wonder if you could use a similar piece of pipe and screw on some of the carbide cutters used on carbide turning tools. Why not? Maybe a pipe made of stronger steel might work better, but what you are using might be good for experimentation.
Literally came to me in a dream. What you see there was an experiment with what I had in the shop. Better steel would be in order for sure. Full disclosure: a quick search after this experiment told me someone already thought of it. Good luck trying to find the product anywhere. So, it was all my own genius, for a few hours... I'm curious as to why thenodea didn't catch on. Maybe people like the shavings?
Here is a cheep solution to that saw dust, maybe not the same concept but works for me.
The one on the flex dryer pipe has a magnet in the end to stick down to table top.
On the other the fitting are not glued giving it a range of areas that it can be in.
Cool idea. Seems like a bit of an obstructed view though. Am I seeing this right?
That must be why all my turnings keep turning out like this lately.

The joints are not glued so you can rotate it to the best possible place.
I was laughing out loud when I saw the lion head. More like a carving than a turning. Nice work though.
Dust collection is a losing proposition.
I wished I had a nickel for ever idea that I have tried.
