Clever, well done. Never seen that before.
Looks like it works quite well. Good idea. I wonder if you could use a similar piece of pipe and screw on some of the carbide cutters used on carbide turning tools. Why not? Maybe a pipe made of stronger steel might work better, but what you are using might be good for experimentation.
Literally came to me in a dream. What you see there was an experiment with what I had in the shop. Better steel would be in order for sure. Full disclosure: a quick search after this experiment told me someone already thought of it. Good luck trying to find the product anywhere. So, it was all my own genius, for a few hours... I'm curious as to why thenodea didn't catch on. Maybe people like the shavings?
Here is a cheep solution to that saw dust, maybe not the same concept but works for me.
The one on the flex dryer pipe has a magnet in the end to stick down to table top.
On the other the fitting are not glued giving it a range of areas that it can be in.
Cool idea. Seems like a bit of an obstructed view though. Am I seeing this right?
That must be why all my turnings keep turning out like this lately.
chiwoodworks,
Sorry for having a little fun at your expense.
The joints are not glued so you can rotate it to the best possible place.
I was laughing out loud when I saw the lion head. More like a carving than a turning. Nice work though.
Dust collection is a losing proposition.
I wished I had a nickel for ever idea that I have tried.
This seems like it might work.
