I am looking into buying a vacuum press. I have not found any reviews on the various ones. They range in price from little to lots.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks

I bought the basic, low-end system from Vacuum Pressing Systems (Darryl Keil's outfit, in Maine), about a year ago, along with the standard bag and a second 8-inch by 12-foot (or so) bag for bent laminations.
I've used it regularly since, along with their Unibond glue and other products, and have been perfectly satisfied. The customer service and shipping have been top-notch and friendly, and the online forum at the website (http://www.vacupress.com) is also very helpful -- questions are replied to with great speed and accuracy.
I haven't worked with any other companies, so I can't comment on them.

I have a similar question... this may sound really weird...but...I read in an old newsletter of our ww guild something to the effect of "thanks to the dairy industry, the local Farm & Fleet stores carry everything you need to set up a vaccuum bagging veneering rig." Can anyone vouch for this? I have no experience in this, just curious and found the comment interesting...
Thanks,
E.
Did you get the one driven by an air compressor? Or the standalone unit?
Best, Ted
Ted, sorry about the delayed response, I've been traveling a lot lately. Anyway, I got the low-end standalone unit, the Compact 100. Here's a link:

As I noted before, I've been very happy... it's met my needs completely. My only challenges have been a too-cold workshop (solved by throwing an electric blanket on top of the bag -- not the compressor!) and an overly-cluttered workbench on top of which I do my veneering and lamination work.

I've been using the vacume pump model from Vac-U-Clamp for a few years. Cheep, quiet and works great.
Glendo.
An acquaintance who is a shop teacher in high school, has a side job of bending wood for furniture. He uses various methods, though he is using Vacupress more and more he said. It is so convenient and less time-consuming he's found.
Vacuum pressing systems in Maine (I think do a search or write me if you cannot find them [email protected]) is great, very good. Follow up after sale is great they are allways knowledgable and available to ask questions with a phone call. Darrel the owner has done several video that I would recomend buying if you want to learn more he is the expert and knows it all.
I had my pump siese up he told me where to hit it with a hammer that loosened it and then told me where I screwed up on maintenece (clear out system with 29 min free run after use as recomended in instructions) see the curves I have done with mine at website gregzall.com
