My understanding is that when a thin veneer is glued to a stable substrate, the movement of the veneer becomes equal to the substrate (presumably none). My question is how thin does the veneer have to be in order to ignore its movement? For instance a 1/32″ thick veneer shouldn’t move, but I would think a 3/4″ panel glued to a stable substrate would still move.
I hope this makes sense. In other words, how thick can veneer be and still act like veneer? 1/16″? 1/8″? 1/4″?
Appreciate any thoughts.

I asked David Marks that exact question and he said "under an eighth." He bandsaws veneers to 1/8" thick and then sands them down some with a drum sander.
1/8" is about the outside limit. 1/16" is best.
