I’m researching veneer glues. We’ve been using Ultrabond with great success but just found out that it cannot be shipped by mail easily. Something to do with the formaldahyde content (which concerns me anyway). I looked at the joewoodworker site and see two glues listed there: Better Bond and Ultra-cat. Does anyone have personal knowledge of these products? The glue will be used for vacuum veneer work. Open time is a concern. I’d also appreciate hearing about any other glues anyone knows about.
Thanks,
Jeff

I can't help you on your request for these products but I use Unibond epoxy and, as such, you can vary the open time simply by adjusting the ratios. I have used it with great success for veneering and bent laminations. There is no problem mailing the product.

jp,
formaldehyde's harder to move as it was formally declared a carcinogen by the WHO about last June.
We've stopped using it.

I did the research recently and ended up with unibond 800-a great product.
The supplier has a forum at:www.vacupress.com/forum.htm and will answer questions.
The unibond 800 is very popular with vacuum press- ers ;if you find a product without formaldehide-I'd be interested.
Just pressed a couple hundred feet of walnut-turned out great.
good luck,
silver
