We want to cover the ends of cabinet runs with knotty pine veneer, to match the doors and drawer fronts. The cabinet boxes are melamine. Is this a suitable substrate for veneering? If so, recommend us a technique, preferably one that uses contact adhesive and a veneer roller. Please, no veneering presses, clamping caul jigs, vacuum bags, etc.

We have had great success by belt sanding the melamine to scratch it and then using solvent based contact. The trick is in really pressing hard when applying veneer. We do it with 4x8 panels and then through a pinch press but the same applies for small stuff.
