I am a novice/hobbyiest from the Gainesville, GA area. I chose to write you because of your restoration expierience. Don’t feel bad to push me over to someone else if you do not deal with much veneering.
I have decided to restore an old Chest of Drawers that belongs to my wife. It is not a tremendously “fine” piece of furniture but good enough that we did not want to get rid of it. The top and drawer fronts were originally veneered with highly figured Mahogony. I have never veneered anything before and was thinking of attempting to hammer veneer the top and drawer fronts.
What type of veneer would you recommend, paper backed or solid wood veneer. I don’t want to get too expensive with this project but if I am going to do it I would prefer to do it right.
The top is about 2′ x 5′.
Thank’s for any help you could give me.

Clay,
I'm not trying to push you to anyone else but you would be better served. Write to Matt Berger and ask him who can give you sound advice on your project.
Peter
Thank you, I will write to Matt.
