For a quick and dirty solution you could use a pair of Visegrip pliers.

Metod, Mr. Lee is very receptive to customer feedback, even puts it in black-and-white on their web site:

You might want to email them with your comments. Also, he's going to be at the big Montana Knots Fest in August to talk about product development. Maybe someone could chat with him about the honing guide.
