Great review Derek. I especially liked the extensive description of the tool in use. I would be interested in your opinion of the L-N small router, which has a better iron-holding mechanism, but has the open sole that some have criticized. Also, if a person was to buy just one size router plane, which do you recommend: lg. or sm. ? (I think I know your answer.)
I cannot offer an opinion about the LN Small router since I have not used one. From pictures I like the square shank of the blade as this would square it automatically. On the other hand, it borrows the blade adjustment screw position from the Stanley #271, which obscures matters on the latter.

Whether the LN actually does so in practice, I have no idea. I would also look at the type of blade holding mechanism. The Veritas' spring loading is a very nice feature.
Both the LN and the Veritas lack the Stanley's square sides. I failed to comment on this in the Veritas review. While I believe that these little routers are designed for freehand use, the option of a batten guide would have been handy.

So which would I have it I had just one? The Large Veritas without a doubt - fence, depth control, added registration ...
