Does anyone know if it is possible to set this vise into a bench so that the rear jaw will be flush with the front edge of the bench similar to a standard bench vise? If so do you lose access to any of the capabilities of this tool? Thanks…….

I see no reason it wouldn't work. It's patterned after the Emmert. You can often get an Emmert for the same price of the Tucker. If I didn't have my Emmert vises I'd probably get the Emmert clone or the Tucker.

Send your question directly to Lee Valley. They are very good at responding to questions of this type.
Hi -
Got the following message back from our R&D Director...
I talked to Ed Tucker about this. The only big problem is the vise rotates and you would have to cut a lot of clearance around the vise to keep this feature. Everything else is probably OK but that does depend on how the bench is built.
Ed suggested instead of cutting the bench to attach two strips of wood. You could attach them with countersunk lag bolts like we do the rear twin screw vise jaw. If you want to rotate the vise then remove them, otherwise you could have wood right up close to the vise.
Essentially - the suggestion would be to make a plate to sit between the rear jaw, and the front edge of the bench...

(PS - Ed Tucker, now well into his 70's, still works with LL at the medical tools company!)
Emmerts are mounted both flush, and set out. Because of sapce constraints, i mounted mine flush, and it has worked fine. My bench is 12/4 maple, so there was a lot of wood to remove.
