who has made vertical blinds?
1. Can anyone give me any pointers on design and making vertical blinds?
2. The next task is that I have windows that are triangular that I would also like to make blinds for.
of course all help appreciated.

I have put several in apartments - got them from Lowes. Seems like if you really wanted to make them you could buy one and pattern off of that. Not to expensive. I definitely would not recommend putting them over a door that opens in.

Good input thanks
What I am thinking on is how to work out a fixture to hold long strips for planing so I could plane the edges from center to edge consistently with same angle and uniform in thickness.
The mechanism they have on factory made units are really quit simple it is just cloth tape and a bell-crank device. Some have a bevel gear and others are just a handle you turn yourself.
Anyway any other help will be appreciated.JigSawJohn
I'm not following you exactly. Are you wanting to build vertical blinds and want to make a jig to hold them so you can run them through the planer?
I'm pretty sure the blinds I used to buy just used a stick on the end to push and pull them.
Your right on, I hope to buy the mechanism to open & close them, Because of the angle they hang on I need to give the supplier the hypotenuse of the angle to cut the rail to. I want to make the blind stays them selves. At the top they will require a miter that complements the window angle, so they can turn to the closed position.
Therefore I plane to make the valance high enough to hide the miters and attachments.
These will not be able to slide to one side due to the angle of the window.
Thanks againJigSawJohn
It takes a picture for me to really see the picture but I think I'm sort of getting the idea. Sounds like it will be very attractive when completed.
I found two mfg's that I am looking up to see if they will sell me the mechanism, then of course at what cost.
As far as a picture I plan to down load Google sketch up today and work on some drawing, see if I can learn to do it. Wish me luck.JigSawJohn
John , what is the length of the headrail needed approx ?
I may have one , that for the cost of shipping could be yours depending on the width or length size .
dusty
Measuring up the Hypotenuse it is 104" long.
I need two of them, I would gladly pay you for them.JigSawJohn
jsj ,
You can purchase the headrail only and punch the correct shaped hole in the top end of each vane to fit the carriers sticking down from the headrail.
Then you could tilt and traverse without having to reinvent the wheel .There are also some newer type that use sliding panels that may be like 12" wide each and they sort of bi pass and all stack in the same 12" on one end when open .
good luck if you need any parts let me know i may be able to help

Do you have any literature on that head rail that you could send to me? or a network source, any further info would be a great help.
Thanks for your input.JigSawJohn
