Hi all – visiting from breaktime…
I’m in Western MD, looking for Vertical Grain Fir Plywood for some kitchen cabinets.
My planing mill can get almost anything…but VGFir. Every search online turns up West Coast mills.
Any leads?
thanks!

Brian,
Not sure if its Fir... but try http://www.boulterplywood.com/ProductGallery_41.htm
I love the look of vertical grain Douglas Fir and recently completed a big bookcase project using it. However, wherever I wanted to see that nice vertical grain, I had to use veneer. SO I had to learn how to veneer myself and I did it on panels which I nailed up in the ole stile and rail method (those were made with solid stock doug fir). When I went to the lumber place for the 3/4" ply to make the carcasses, thet sold me fir plywood - but man was I dissapointed in the look. I might as well have used pine. I am thinking of veneering the inside - but luckily the cases are jammed with books. My thought is you will not find vertical grain on the plywood. If you love the look, maybe someone can venner it up for you in their shop for a price.
How about this?

They're on the eastern shore, but I think they will deliver anywhere. I haven't dealt with them yet, but those who have offered high praise.
Thanks - I actually grew up kinda near Sudlersville MD...lookiong at the site (and the Boulterplywood site) I didn't see the fir grain pattern I was looking for:

This stuff is relatively common in the Northwest, but rare here - maybe that's why I am so drawn to it. As a last resort, I may need to get it shipped from the NW...$
Treat every person you meet like you will know them the rest of your life - you just might!
Try contacting some veneer suppliers. In the past, Iv'e bought it on paper back in 4'x8' sheets. Don't remember the price. Thi s would make it easily shipped to your door.
