Would anyone have any pics I could see ? Victorian style isn’t my forte, and I’m not coming up with any nice ideas on my own. I’m interested in the square or rectangular, built-up or wrapped style that project above the top rail and are capped with some sort of finial cap. Sure would apprecite any ideas or links to good websites.
I posted this question over at Breaktime, and I’ve already been surfing around looking ..

Have you checked a bookstore?
There are tens, if not hundreds of books on various aspects of the Victorian style -- including stair rails.

Roberts' Illustrated Millwork Catalog, A Sourcebook of Turn-of-the-Centry Architectural Woodwork. By E.L. Roberts is the book that I think you are looking for.
It is actually a catalog for that company from 1905, and should be in your shop if you do much of this kind of work.
Mine is by Dover 0-486-25697-9
Oh yea, I've already been to a couple bookstores and our main Library too, my first step whenever I'm researching period details.
Keith, I'll call my Library and see if they can find that book for me. It sounds like a great tip !
