I’m having difficulty viewing the videos in the members only section. Please help.
On the home page, for example, (http://www.taunton.com/FWN/subscription/index.aspx) I tried to view the video on “Using a Card Scraper.” The problem is that clicking on the “video” button does nothing. When I click on the “Using a Card Scraper” button, it takes me to a page that summarizes the video (http://www.taunton.com/FWN/subscription/SkillsAndTechniques/SkillsAndTechniquesArticle.aspx?id=5299), but there is no link there to view the video. In other words, I can’t find a link to actually load the video. I have both Realplayer and Quicktime installed on my computer, and haven’t had any difficulty viewing video from other sites.
I posted here because I thought maybe others might be having the same difficulty.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Looks like I'm having the same problem. Unable to load videos with all the necessary applications in place and working normally. Starting to get a little annoyed - I can't seem to pinpoint what is blocking the video stream (someting on my PC???)and I've e-mailed Taunton but had no response. Everything else on the site is working fine and I've been billed as well.
Hope you're having more luck now Houston Heights - the video clips really are a great resource. It's unfortunate we don't have anything as high powered and inormative as the fine woodworking site in the UK.
Can anyone else offer help??
Ror,
I'm not sure why you might be experiencing problems viewing videos on the site. Are you running the most current version of Flash (v.7 or v.8)?
The only other issue that we've seen is that people with dial-up Internet access are having trouble streaming the videos. Are you on a high-speed connection?
Let me know and I'll see what more I can do for you.

Matt,
Thanks for the response. Yes, I'm running the latest version of flash, downloaded through your link, and the connection I've been using is through a university system (about as fast as you can get I suppose!).
Still, I've had no luck. Maybe theres something blocking the video stream on my system?? I've had our network engineer have a look and he reckons everything is set up to accept streaming video (I've seen resources from other woodwork sites).
The space where the video loads just remains blank; with just the description visible. Although, I have seen one or two clips that loaded immediately. Any ideas welcome!!
Regardless of the problem, I still think your site and magazine are superb. Especially for myself as a young(ish) self training woodworker. Give yourselves a "pat on the back".
Cheers

Hi Rory,
Your situation has me stumped. I hate to bother you but I wonder if you could help me do a test.
You mentioned that you were able to view one or two videos on our site. Could you send me a link to one video that you can view and one video that you can't view. I'll compare the two to see if something is bad on our end.
I apologize for the inconvenience.
Matt
Matt ---
I'm about ready to subscribe, but I want to see if I can see the videos.
Do you have any freebie videos at all so a potential customer can check compatibility?
Thanks!

Hi John,
Below are some links to a few free videos on the site. Just for your reference, paid content on the site is identified with a small football-shaped icon. Anything that doesn't show the icon is free to view.
Please post again to let us know how your test goes.

I was able to access the video just fine, thanks. It's a big jerky but I think that's due to your frame rate, and an intentional decision.
I watched the cock beading video. I thought it was funny when he pointed out his throat plate and said it was a "Zero Tolerance Insert." :)
Informative, good enough, I just have to decide if I'm happy with the no-download policy. Usually I won't rent content...

That cockbeading video with Latta is really good. He has a great delivery and apparently one helluva shop.
Matt - I tried today to look at a video of a mortise and tenon segment and could not receive it. I have just tried your links and was not able to see those either. My computer is a brand new Dell Dimension 9100 and works fine. I have been able to receive videos from Food Network and thru my webcam. Ralph
Matt Berger,
on March 20 I had a problem wit the Ver. 8.. and had to go to Ver. 7.r63 and all is fine. Some where in there Help File is a remark to that efect. It tok me 1/2 hour to find . I think the problem in Ver. 8 is known to them.

I can confirm the streaming problem on a slow connection. It doesn't seem to be caching or streaming the file - it plays a few seconds, stops for a while and so on. Ususally when this happens on sites I wait till the whole thing jerks through, then rewind and play and everything is fine as the video is cacvhed on my PC. With the Flash files here, it seems to download the whole thing over again.
Hi folks, About the videos, see my post in Magazine Feedback March 17 th

Just to add to the confusion. I run a Mac. I cannot view the videos with the Explorer browser. I have to switch over to Safari. Otherwise I get a blank where the video should be and Articles are written two or three words in a line down a long column on the left.
