What browser do you use, Mr. O?? Your suggestion is aimed at getting the photo to open in a program that automatically sets the image size to something you can actually see on your monitor, right?? There's another way, doesn't take up any hard drive space: If you use Internet Explorer, and your browser is set appropriately, if you open the attachment (image) in a separate window, the image will be small enough to see it.
Tools-->Internet Options-->Advanced-->Multimedia....check Enable Automatic Image Resizing.
I almost always open image attachments in a seprate window -- old habit from when I was on dial-up and didn't want to waste loading time. Right-click--->OPen in new window (or tab, with IE7). Or, control+click.
