You might want to try Breaktime, or possibly http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/appl/ - these people are pretty passionate about their high end kitchen gear. My initial gut reaction is that you will need a lot more CFM of fan capability than a microwave/hood combo can generate - the Viking can really put out the heat. (Of course, it will look like crap too, but I don't think that was the question...)
Geeze dedge, that Viking will make a boatload of BTU's. If it is actually going to be used like it should be, a little hood won't work very well. Not to mention cooking that microwave. At least that is using my experience with industrial kitchen stuff as a reference. I also know that it wouldn't meet code here.
I own a Viking. We had some questions when we installed it and called the company. They were very helpful. If you like to cook, it is a great piece of equipment.

We installed a similar stove (range/oven combo). These guys put out LOTS of heat. They should (in come cases, must) be vented to the outside to remove combustion byproducts as well as the heat. Heck, if we fire up all six burners and the oven, we're putting out more BTUs than our furnace and we certainly wouldn't run that unvented! We opted to put in a commercial SS hood over it, vented outside, and have never regretted it. As part of the deal, the hood includes infrared warming lights/shelves. My wife now swears by this option and says she'll never have a kitchen without them again! We use this option more than our microwave, which was installed elsewhere in the kitchen. You might want to talk your customer into this. Someone who can afford a Viking should be able to afford to do it right with a real/good hood with adequate venting. (PS> Don't forget to allow for enough fresh air to feed the vent. In a tignt house, this can really be a problem.)

When I remodeled my home, the wife chose Viking cooktop (professional series) and separate double oven. It's all about the btu's of your cooktop. Over a certain amount, and I velieve the # is 12,500 btu's PER BURNER, you can no longer use a down draft. You have to have an overhead hood with a rating, I believe, of over 600 cfm. If you go to the Viking website, they will tell you CLEARLY what each cooktop requires for venting. DON'T MESS AROUND!!! 7 months ago, a 5500 square foot brand spanking new home by my house burnt to the ground. Cause= improper ventilation of cooking system, roof caught on fire over cooktop. No kidding!!

I would not do it, These ranges put out loads of heat and the microwave cabinet would suffer big time!
Dear dedge,
Everyone has given you the right info. about lots of heat that your cook top gives off. I just had a new house built and we had a viking cook top put in and all my research I have not seen anywhere where you can install a microwave above the cook top. You should install a vent hood for sure because of the heat and some smoke when you fry. Of course my cook top is 36'' and I don't know of a micro that wide.
The Viking Range with Viking Microwave/hood installed to spec will handle the heat. Pay attention to height above burners and use the optional shield they mention and you should have no trouble. Be aware that upper side cabinets must be set back from edges of the cooktop unlike standard ranges. The Dacor micro will work with this unit also. aloha, mike
I installed a Viking hood over my range, 36" wide. Great system, very effective. Had 2 options for the blower, ~600 cfm and the ~900 cfm. Went with the smaller unit but if you/your customer does a lot of cooking go with the bigger blower.
everyone is steering you in the right direction... you need sreious hood with atleast 600 cfm and no microwave.
I have the 36" viking and opted for their hood as well.
as long as there are sufficient cfm any hoo will do. (600 plus)
Amen on the hood. The Viking and similar type ranges put off a lot of heat.
Grits
