I am between the Wagner 2900 and the Fuji Super HVLP sprayers (available in Tool Crib) and could use some recommendations as to how they compare. Neither were reviewed in the FWW article since they are both over $500, although they did give the nod to the Wagner’s younger brother, the 2600. I will be primarily spaying latex enamel paints on book cases, cabinets etc. Any input would be appreciated before I commit to this BIG purchase. Thanks in advance!

I haven't used the wagner so can't comment on that. I had the inexpensive Campbell Hausfeld easy spray and while it worked okay on lacquer I didn't like the results using waterbornes. I built a turbine, based on an old FWW article, I understand that the motor I used is the same as the Fuji. I bought the Fuji gun. Compared to the easy spray it is a much better engineered and machined gun. Overall I am getting much better results sprayning waterborne ( Compliant Spay system products ) The only downside is that adjusting the width of the spray on the Fuji is by turning a nut on the front of the gun. There are no reference marks and it seems like a number of turns are needed to accomplish a change. (On the other hand, the type of spray - vertical, horizontal , circle, is very easy) If that is something you want to change often, like going from an - you may want to see if the Wagner is any better in that regard.
*I was planning on purchasing the Wagner 2900 but after reading a bad review of it on the Amazon web site (which is where you actually order it from Tool Crib) and good reviews of the Fuji I decided to go with the Fuji. I ordered it two days ago from Cheyenne Sales in Florida and should get it by the end of next week. I purchased the Q4 model which is a four stage unit and is suppose to be 50% quieter than previous models. It's geared toward painters and comes with a larger size tip than the Q3. The cost was $710. It's a few dollars more than the Wagner $599 and I have yet to see anything bad written about it. Fuji's web site gives a good expaination of all of their units. You won't even find the 2900 mentioned on Wagner's web site. Are they embarrassed to show it?Good luck
*I bought the Wagner 2900 from Amazon about 6 months ago to replace the el-cheapo Campbell-Hausfield that I had used for 3 years. The C-H was good for water-thin finishes only, and throughput was low. I chose the Wagner based mainly on the article in Fine Woodworking that ranked the 6psi unit as having the best atomization. With the 8psi Wagner, I expected to be able to spray unthinned latex enamels, but some thinning is still required. I really enjoy using the gun with lacquer because atomization is quite good and fluid throughput is much higher than with the C-H 4psi gun I had. I have also sprayed Hydrocote Resisthane mixed with Latex paint as a color coat, with excellent results.I am happy with the results from the gun, but to be fair I am only comparing it to the gun I used to have. I do wish that the fluid passages were stainless instead of aluminum, but I think you have to pay a lot more.I didn't read the negative comment you refer to on the Amazon site, but I for one am very pleased with the turbine and gun
*I have a Q4 and haven't heard many bad things about the unit. I ordered mine from cheyenne also and am happy. Amazing how much faster they are. I did my first piece with absolutly no practice and did fine.
