I’m in the process of beginning a project of wainscotting the library in my home. It currently has 1/2 sheet rock on the walls. I’ve been looking for plans on how to tie in the wainscott panels to the door casings so the top cap won’t protrude past the casing. Anyone with any suggestions or anyone knowing of plans, I would greatly appreciate hearing from them.

A)Use a cap with a sqaure edge that overhangs the wainscott 1/4". This will look OK if it protrudes from the casing. If you have time, you could
B)Remove the 1/2"sheetRock and add horizontal framing nailers for the wainscott section.
C) Put extension trim around the casing.
