Walker Turner Table Saw Question
I am in the middle of restoring a Walker Turner Tilting Arbor saw, Model 2221. I am having a heck of a time getting the belts (3) to stay on the pulley. I ‘ve tried to align the pulleys as best as I could, (there’s not that much leeway to adjust), but they always come off in about one revolution. The belts measure almost 1/2″ in width and stick out above the pulley about 1/4″. Is it possible these are not the right belts and they are too wide? I am wondering if I should go to the auto parts store and get some narrower belts or maybe switch to 3/8″ link belts. I’ve got the parts diagram and it shows the belts, but no measurement. I just signed up for the OWWM web site and am waiting for the site administrater’s OK before posting there. Any help would be surely appreciated.
Thanks

Measure the width of the pulley at the top and see if it is 3/8" It looks like the 1/2" belts are too wide. Does the parts diagram give a standard belt P/N like 4L 330?
Life is what happens to you when you're making other plans .
The belts sound wrong. A section belts are the norm for machines of this size, and given that there are three sheaves, it seems unlikely that a bigger size would be used.
For the definitive word, I'd check the forum over at http://www.owwm.org

I also have a Walker Turner table saw, shortly after I got it the belts started to go one at a time. I live on the Cape in MA and tried every auto store/repair shop I could find and no luck. My father took me to a Precision bearing shop in NJ and they measured the broken belt I had and set me up. It is an odd size and took a place that specializes in belts to find. If you have an original, even broken bring it to a place to be measured. As mine are back on the saw for about two years now, I don't recall the size. Hope this helps, Jeff
My experience with Walker-Turner was limited to a lathe, on which all threads were non=standard. I had to hire a machinist to make several nuts. I've heard that they frequently used non-standard parts.

I'd expect McMaster-Carr to have whatever is needed. Their online catalog has a description of the standard sections, and instructions on how to measure.

Walker Turner table saw V belts
The belts are indeed 3/8". Get three "3L160 fractional V belts".
Fractional might not sound right but remember that these saws were mostly equipped with 3/4 HP motors and that there are three belts so it works out fine.
Note that these belts are quite short. If you substitute longer belts the motor might not fit right on the mount and even if you get it on securely it will hit the cabinet at low blade projections and when cranked to 45 degrees.
Walker Turner questions
You should go over to http://www.owwm.org/index.php and ask your question there. Walker turner restoration is very often discussed. TS's and BS's. I'm in the middle of a 16" BS restoration now.
