I was wanting to make a garden bench and was wondering if it were wise to use wallnut. Will it turn grey?
Thanks, Searle.

IMHO Black Walnut is too valuable of a tree to be used as an exterior bench. Harvestable supplies of B. Walnut are diminishing faster than they are being replaced. I sparingly and judiciously use, as everybody should, B. Walnut for "special" projects. Other wise that very special, King of American Hardwoods, will be an extreme luxury with a very dear cost.

walnut does not last very long outside. It is not resistant to moisture UV and insects. almost every wood will turn gray if exposed.
