I just got a bonus and want to spend it. I have budgeted $1,200 for a band saw and $900 for a lathe. My question is what brand will give me the most for the money. I need to be able to resaw 12 inches. I have 220 volt and plenty of shop space. I have heard the Laguna LT14se will resaw 12 inches but I looked on their site and found plenty of angry customers. I am the type of person that wants to spend time using the equipment not trying to get it or repair it. As far as the lathe is concerned it looks like the Jet is the best for the money.
What do you all think?

Check out the Fisch bandsaw. It is within your budget and maybe even a little less. Woodshop news had a write-up about it in the last issue I received. I just recently bought one after a couple years of procrastination. It is the most bandsaw for the money I found. It is a 16" saw but still has 12-3/8 resaw capacity. I have been very pleased with the performance. Just be sure to get good blades-that is a significant part of resawing with the bandsaw. I use Timberwolf blades after talking with their rep about what I wanted to do with the bandsaw. They were very helpful in helping to determine which blades would serve me best.

Thanks for the advice. Did you buy yours online? Does it run off 110? Did you have good service from the company?
I bought my bandsaw at the woodworking show in Greensboro, NC back in Feb. It was the saw they had on display for the show. It is the second piece of machinery I have bought from them. I bought a mortising machine from them several years ago.
The customer service is tops in my book. I had a minor problem with the mortiser and when I called it was hassle free. They sent replacement parts right away at no charge. It is a small company and you do not get the "run around" you often get with big companies.
The saw has a 1 1/2 HP 110/230 motor(comes wired for 110). The cast iron table is 16 x 16 which tilts 45 degrees to the right and 15 degrees to the left and it comes with a 3 point fence. It has cast iron wheels, 2- 4" dust ports, crank adjustment for roller guides, tension relief mechanism for the blade and a 12 3/8 resaw capacity.
I recommend you call and talk to them. Tell them the guy that bought the 16" bandsaw at the Greensboro show referred you.

Post this thread over in the knots forum too. Since your new, welcome. Knots is up top near the center of the screen, its the woodworking forum (fine woodworking mag) and breaktime is the carpentry/gc forum (fine homebuilding mag). Also do a search when you get over there, this is a subject that will have lots of previous posts.
