I’m looking into getting a sliding miter saw, is the ridgid 12″ good or should I go with a smaller 10″ saw like the bosch? or any other for that matter. It will be used for remodelling/ fixing up my house.
Thanks,
Gary

hi
i am a finish carpenter & i have purchased over 4 diffrent types of miter saws .I would recomend the hitachi 8 1/4 slide compound.i dont belive the larger blade does anything except cost more
Thanks for your opinion, I think Lowes sells hitachi and I'll have to take a good look at it.
Gary
hi garry
i think the hitachi is a more allaround saw you could set it up to dado you can cut crown on the flat side ( see if someone can lead you to an old issue in fine homebuilding about miter saws and angles that should really prove my point )
When you go into LOWES to look at the Hitachi pay special attention to the model no. Some (not all mind you) of these big box stores have enough buying power to request that the manufacturer make a lesser quality tool in order to sell it for less money than there competition. Cross reference the model no. with the same saw at a local tool store or on-line. IMO the big box stores are betting most home owners are not going to use a tool as much as a pro therefor a lesser quality will never be a issue. A new CMS is a big ticket item and we always want to get the most bang for our buck. I have the Makita 1013 and it is a really nice saw. A Co-worker has one of the first Hitachi 8 1/4 CMS it is bullet proof. Hope this helps. Rick.
I have a Makita 1013 and love it. Right out of the box it was set up . I had to make no ajustments at all and it has been right on all cuts I've made.
Hi,
Couldn't agree with you more. Love my 1013. I won't trade it for anything.
Best regards,
Kevin
Hi im also a chippy my hitachi 8 and a quater has cut five house frames and also done the fix it's had one sevice in four years and I would swear by it. but please look after your blades.
that hitachi there refering too is legendary, it's one of those tools that just makes sense. You cannot go wrong with that, except that you have to cut "large" crown on the flat which is more difficult, but hey you have to do the same thing with a 10 inch blade as well. I'd buy the hitachi.
I have the 8 1/4 Hitachi. One of the originals. It is definately a workhorse. I hate the degree scale and the detents.
I also have the 10" Makita. Much better scale and detents. If I am trimming that's what I use. I also think it is quieter than the Hitachi.
10" blades are also easier to find.
