Hi All,
We just pushed two new features live on our Web site. We now have a gallery dedicated entirely to workshops: https://www.finewoodworking.com/shop-tour
And jigs: https://www.finewoodworking.com/jigs
So, if you have shop or jig photos, please post them in these new galleries. We’d love to see your work.
Share photos of your shop here: https://www.finewoodworking.com/share/flexpost/shop/
Share photos of your jigs by clickin here: https://www.finewoodworking.com/share/flexpost/jig/
I’m still doing some clean up work, but wanted to drop a line in case any of you folks wanted to be the first.
This is in addition to our gallery of furniture photos that you can find here: https://www.finewoodworking.com/gallery
Thanks! Gina, FineWoodworking.com

Profile "Main"
Hi Gina;
Your jigs and shops site is a good idea. I will contribute.
In the interim, how the hell do you enter data in the Member Profile ? I have been trying to add a little personal flavor, like profession, hobby interests, something to add some depth and I can not get through the profile form. Is it the HEADING I'm looking for? I see that lead on other's pages and the information follows...very annoying...I'm sure there is a simple cure, but I have yet to uncover it. I offer my password and I'm in for an edit, but no place to go.
I did manage to upload a picture of myself and my wife. But, the readers will probably wonder which one is the woodworker!
I look forward to your help!
Bill
How to update your profile
Just go to your profile and click the "forum profile" tab: http://forums.finewoodworking.com/members/wafa
That's where you can enter more details. -Gina
not hot...not clickable
Gina, thanks for the quick response, but, the forum profile is not clickable. Very frustrating waste of time. Do you have another suggestion?
t hanks,
Bill,
I saw the photo of you and your daughter. Very nice. She looks just like you.
In your message, you said: "the forum profile is not clickable. Very frustrating waste of time."
When I first read that, the first thought that came to my mind was: Darn, another response from an old geezer." Then I remembered. I am an old geezer too, along with 99.765% of the rest of the folks who inhabit Knots.
There is no need to ever get frustrated by somethingn on Knots, such as how to write a profile. All you have to do is go to the bottom of the page and you will see (if you have your glasses on) a button labelled "Contact us". When you click the page, you will get the contact info for Fine Woodworking and Knots. That includes their phone number, which is
203-426-8171
If you call that number, someone will cheerfully solve whatever problem you have, on the spot, and with a smile. It hever fails. They will walk you through it.
Let me let you in on a secret; saying things which are semi-nasty, such as " Very frustrating waste of time" makes a person sound like an old geezer. It just gets people upset at you, because they are too short sighted to see that someday they will be just like that too, if they are lucky. The better way to handle things was taught to me by my mother, who used to say, "You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar." So next time, take the more effective route, and call the phone number and say something very nice, pay a few compliments on the magazine and the website, and tell the lady that she has a beautiful voice. Then ask her your question, and watch what happens.
Have fun.
Mel
Mel, you are ever the pleasant and well-mannered old geezer.
The "Edit" function actually will not apply to any of the fields you once filled in such as occupation, age, etc., and yes it is a frustrating waste of time to try to edit them. For me to make a long-distance call to Taunton from the other side of the globe just to flatter them and figure out how to do it would be going from the ridiculous to the sublime. So I'll just have my moment of frustration and try to continue ageing with dignity, thank you.
civility
David;
I've enjoyed your posts and projects through the years. Thanks for your support and response to the blowhard's insults.
Thanks also to all for the insight into navigating Knots pages. Difficult at best.
I'm proficient in Autocad and Sketchup and other more complex programs, so it is not that I can not find my way around IT roadblocks.
Thanks again, to all who wrote.
Thankfully getting older
Mel:
I'm a few months shy of seventy and I seem to manage reasonably well on the new sight, however I liked the original better.
Thanks for the info, just in case. I get the feeling you've had to make that call a time or two.
Jim
My memory is still excellent, It's just short.
Ralph said it all really.
I will add that I learned the hard way that you must then SAVE your changes or they don't survive long. At least I think that is the case. Could be the Mac chat room. Look for a save and save if there is a save.
Glad you are adding info. I filled mine up and enjoy reading others.
PS: I too enjoy seeing other peoples shops. Good idea.
Editing Profiles
There are two ways to get to your profile, Bill. The "My Profile" link in the navigation block at the upper left of the page display, and by clicking on your name in one of your posts. Either will display your profile. To change something, click on the Edit tab within that display. If you aren't logged in (with your user ID showing above the navigation block), however, you won't be able to edit.
Edit: I should have added that, as Roc points out below, fields from the old deatabase that aren't in the new table cannot be edited.
The shops and jigs features are great ideas, Gina.
