Gary, I have an entertainment center which I built from old Wormy Chestnut. There are 2 doors on the front that measure 24″ wide by 26″ high. They are glued up panels with the boards running vertically. Both doors have warped uniformally to about 1/4″. In other words when I lay a straight edge from one side to the other there is a 1/4″ gap in the center that runs from top to bottom. Both doors have warped the same amount. They are inset doors. Do you know of anything I can do to flatten them back out. I don’t know if you need more information or not.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Bill Daniel

Bill,
Well if the cupping is consistent first try to figure out why it might have happened. Did you finish both sides equally? Did you have battens on the inside to prevent cupping?
At this point, you could try clamping the cup out and attaching battens with screws put into slots. This might work if the battens are thick enough. If not, then you'll have to strip any finish on the doors.
Then you could just cut them apart, flatten and reglue them and add your battens. You could also try to clamp them flat, rout for dovetailed battens into their back faces and run dovetailed battens in to keep them flat. Or you could hope that wetting down the concave side and weighting them down might pull the cup out. But I doubt it. Good luck. Gary
Thanks for your reply Gary. Both sides were finished equally, but I did not use battens. I think your solutions to try to clamp and at battens is my best option. Cutting apart and regluing is not really viable because of exterior trim that would be destroyed in the process. I am not an expert by any means so this is a learning experience for me. Thank you very much for taking the time to reply.
Sincerely,
Bill Daniel
