There have been some Washington people interested in learning more about a local lumber mill that I got the specifics on. They mill Alder, Pacific Maple and have Medrona (I guess it is a rare wood, never heard of it). Alder they mill at 8/4, 6/4 and 4/4. Maple they mill at 8/4 and 4/4. The Unit of Medrona they have left is just shy of 4/4. The Alder is pretty sweet, something I have not ordered or worked with yet. The Maple comes in Clear, Fiddleback, Curly and Curly2. I have worked with all the maple they mill and it is pretty good quality. Fiddleback $3.00bf, Curly $1.30bf, Curly2 $5.00bf, Clear appox $0.70bf. I don’t know how much the Medrona is, the Alder I belive is $0.70bf.
If anyone is interested in getting more info let me know. I will give you their sales rep. info. It has been an awesome resource for me and I would love to share it. They prefer larger orders, my typical order is around $500. Hope this interests some people.

The Madrona tree happens to be the State tree for Washington. It is highly unusual to find any piece of it longer than 5' that is straight. When it is seen out in the "woods" it looks like it is a dying tree because of the way it sheds it's bark.
When milled, you can get a lot of figured wood because when a branch breaks off it will sometimes grow over the break.
I am interseted in the alder and the maple. Is this material kiln dried???
Yes, all the wood is kiln dried. I want to say Alder is to 11% and Maple is to 7%, but I am not sure. It is good enough for what I have been building, furniture mainly. Almost all of their wood is sold to cabinet manufactures, not that it means anything.
If you want to "share" a small part of an order, LMK. I'd love to pick up some alder and maple! Alder is a fave of mine. forestgirl Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>) you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
John, could you please email me the sales rep info? $500 seems like a reasonable level, and I'd like to have the info on-hand. Thanks!
