I’m refinishing a table with a few black water stains on the top. The walnut is in excellent condition and about 40 years old so the veneer is fairly thick. I’ve sanded lightly but can tell the stain is deep. If it can’t be removed, I’ll probably do any inlay. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Walnut Fix
Post some photos of the area being worked.
Water Stain
As you can see, the walnut is in beautiful condition other than the stains.
Oxalic acid is your best bet. It usually does a pretty good job of lighting such water stains. You may want to cover the entire surface to ensure an even result, but it won't do more that a modest basic color change on the walnut unless you keep the surface wet with the oxalic acid for some time.
Water Stain
Thanks Steve, I'll give it a go.
