Hello Everyone.<!—-><!—-> <!—->
I am trying to find just right color for my project and I think I have, it is Minwax’s “Spice“. It is a custom mixed water-based stain color. Has anyone used a custom mixed stain? It would be done at Lowe’s.<!—-> <!—->
My question is, I have Minwax Wipe-On Poly that I plan on using. I have it already and have used it before with great results. Is it comparable with the water-based stain?<!—-> <!—->

An oil based finish over a waterborne stain is just fine. In fact, it's preferred. A waterborne finish over a waterbased stain will dissolve the stain. Just let the stain fully dry and be soft appying the first coat of wipe-on.
I just used some on a very small piece in red oak. The custom colors just have some universal colorants added. I liked it. The oak doesn't take water that well so I had to rub it in a bit. They recommend using their conditioner first, which I didn't. This may have helped. I certainly would use it on blotch prone woods. One of the things I liked was that it didn't darken the porous grain like oils and even water dyes do. I top coated with oil brushing poly. I'm looking forward to trying it on a larger piece.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Thanks for the replies everyone. I will be using the wood conditioner first, my project is mostly all Pine.
