I just received a Danish type teak table from my mother. There is a water stain in the center of one leaf (fortunately) from an over watered plant.
1. Do I need to strip of what looks like a Watco type oil finish?
2. What type of stripper?
3. The (Watco Teak Oil Finish) looks fairly clear so will I need to restain it then apply New oil finish?
Anyone’s advice appreciated. Thanx

Is the spot black or white. black I suspect. Will require a bleach.
Watco will probably not be what you want at first but maybe at last.
Remove the stain. Most ScanDesign is veneer so check that first. If the stain is white scrape it with a card scraper and then refinish testing for color effect.
If the stain is black that means it has gone through the finish to the wood and discolored the veneer. You need bleach like oxalic acid to remove the black which is available at better paint stores. You may want to bleach the whole piece to have an even color. Once this is achieved its your choice for finish-oil, lacquer, or poly. Have fun and dont be afraid to experiment a little to get the effect you want. The bottom of the piece is a likely test site. aloha, mike
The water stain is white. And yes it is teak veneer. Another words I'll need to scrape the finish off evenly on the entire table leaf, then try to stain it evenly with oil stain, then after it's cured, finish with teak oil? My only problem is trying to match the color of the other leaf and the table. I have a good sharp cabinet scraper and also a variety of minwax oil stains so I'll give it a shot Thanx all
If its white, try only scraping to get the white layer off or even just light sanding. Then you can re-oil instead of refinish. aloha, mike
