I recently finished a cherry and walnut lamp base with two coats of danish oil and three coats of wax. I have areas that have turned white – it seems especially on the pores of the walnut. Is this too much wax buily up? How can I remove the wax so I can apply a coat of Varnish?

Wash the piece down with mineral spirits. Don't apply a varnish - sand in two more 'coats' of Danish oil using 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper (thoroughly wiping down the excess), let it cure for a week and then wax with Fiddes cherry tinted paste wax.
