I have a recently lacquered chair that was waxed and would like to go back and finish it better. I believe I didn’t get the lacquer sprayed on too well and would like advice on the best means of removing the wax before correcting my mistakes. I have seen a product called wax wash remover but would like to know if mineral spirits might work as well. Any tips welcome.. NB The base material is wenge.

Mineral spirits are (is?) the traditional way to remove wax. Should work just fine.

excellent, I'll give it a go, thank you
Ms Forest is exactly right--I'd add one thing--use lots of rags or papertowels so you are removing, not just smearing the wax around.
Amen, amen. I own stock in Viva paper towels, so buy those, eh?! ROFL.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Mineral spirits and the sanding to the raw wood should be enough.
