Mineral spirits will dissolve it. Once you get to the varnish, wipe the surfaces with a dry rag or paper towel to dry it..
As said, mineral spirits or naphtha will remove it, but keep turning a clean surface of paper towel to the wood so you aren't just smearing the wax further.
