I've seen claims that white oak and walnut stand up to outside conditions pretty well, but no experience.

Osage orange
I have a weaving shuttle made of osage orange. Bought it from a widower whose wife had used it for years, so I asked if he would please mark its provenance. He carved "Evelyn Klein" into the side, but the wood was difficult to work with hand tools.
