Hi ALL,
I’m up in northern New Hampshire and the snow is intensifying. It started around 4:30AM and is expected to last well into the night.
And the worst is yet to come!

Beyootiful country! And a snowfall to thoroughly enjoy--for about a half day. Then I'd want to retreat to southern Indiana where we received all of 1/2 inch, which is already melting.
Bob
Bob,
Nice!!! Lovely countryside, too.
We've gotten about 6 inches or so here in Albuquerque in the last 18 hours....

Right now it's snowing so hard you can't see the poles in the background! I just measured and we have 14+ inches since 4:30AM thgis morning.
The pics are from my office window at work. I'll share some pics of the countryside, as soon as I can see through the snowstorm!

Your not alone in getting slamed. We have had a foot or so here in upstate new york. About 12 degrees with heavy snow plus the wind is coming up. I am west of Oswego NY, they got around 7 feet of snow last week, but Redfield had 11feet 9 inches confirmed by the weather bureau. After this storm passes we will most likely get more lake effect snow. The college in Oswego was closed 3 days last week which is unheard off.
John
John,
I know, I saw some footage on TV last night. A guy was shoveling off his porch roof and throwing the snow UP! I have a friend in Oswego who runs a hardwood flooring mill and he sent me some pics.
Absolutely incredible!Bob @ Kidderville Acres

Bob, who has the flooring mill? I have a friend who has set up a finishing line for flooring in Oswego. The line is 180' long, finish put on by roll coating and uv cured. At the end the product is put into boxes ready to ship. They can finsh on a good day over 10,000 square feet of flooring. Last I knew he was clearing out excess flooring for 2.00 a sq foot. anyone interested there number is 315 207 0044.
John
It's Sure-Loc flooring.

Bob, SAme place, Brownie set that system up, it is something else. He is tied in with the owner of Great Lakes Veneer. Also a good friend of mine here in Wolcott is plant manager for him. Actually most of the independent cabinet one man shops around here have gotten steady jobs.
John
John,
It is certainly a small world, EH?
I've talked with Brownie and Barb many times in the past. They run a very dependable business and Brownie is one of the best. He had an unfortunate accident a while back as you may know.
I've also dealt with some great folks at Aacer Flooring. http://www.aacerflooring.com/
Sure-Loc has a patented (I believe) engineered flooring system and Aacer has both, although they specialize in solid wood flooring and sports/gym flooring. Aacer is located in Peshtigo, Wisconsin.
If you happen to run into either Brownie or Barb, give them my best, OK?

It's finally subsided into winter wonderland up here, wind has died down and the temp is 0°F and expected to drop some more during the night. I'm getting frustrated not being able to get back into the woodshop, but am busy fettling planes.
If you use a little imagination you can see a face in the attached pic. The nose was formed by the wind today but I can't figure out how the eyes were formed. The mouth is a bird feeder.

Not to hard to imagine a face. You had better sell that on ebay before........
Hang in-- maybe tomorrow you will have the balmy 11 F we have today. YOu got the snow, we got the ice down here and I have 3 inches on the driveway. Snowblower was not worth a red cent against the ice. Spring will come -- just hope the snow and ice melt before June. Dan Carroll
is that a job trailer I see???
tis, it's the construction trailer. I run the scale in the scalehouse, which is also a trailer.

Are you North of Mt. Washington? Should be wild up there today.
Yes, Colebrook. We're just 10 miles from Canada.

I grew up - and still have a summer cottage - about thirty miles below Moosehead Lake. I miss those big storms. Great skiing and sledding. We could probably snow sled from Moosehead to Colebrook, all on good trails. If I had a snow sled :)
Now we're on the Maine Coast in the Brunswick area. Down here we get the wet, heavy stuff that is miserable to clean up. Cardiac shoveling! Then every thing turns to ice. Getting sleet at the moment.
Enjoy your storm!

We received a little over 40 cm (about 2.5 cm to the inch) with another 5 or so to some today and a full week of the white stuff next week, all week. The problem is with the blowing and drifting snow. 40 cm will make drifts that can hide a small house when the wind is right. :-) (with my foot slightly on the exaggerator for effect)
I guess it will my turn to shovel a very big roof this weekend. With drifting, I will have areas that are 4 feet deep. JL

I am in Central Pennsylvania where we have had about 6 to 8 inches, but very wet and it is now ice. Sleet and frozen rain came on top of the snow, then more snow.
Roads are horrible, everything is closed. Trees are covered with a light mixture of snow and ice. Thankfully not an ice storm, but there are a few scattered power outages.
Normally takes about 45 minutes to clear the drive with the snowblower, but took over two hours because of how wet everything is.
A beautiful day in the neighborhood.

We're getting hit hard here in Vermont too. Must have about 14" so far, and the storm is expected to continue for another 15 hours here.
Hey GRW,
Where are you -- north of 2? -- I can't tell how much we got already here in Chittenden county because of heavy drifting, and it is currently snowing harder than it has all day. I'm guessing we'll have 2 feet by the end of the night.

Just finished plowing out the driveway which took an hour and it normally takes just 20 mins. They say that you should plow with the storm, but when you have to work all day, you kinda get behind. I can't imagine how the folks in upstate NY are dealing with the snowfall they've had recently.
Makes our situation pale in comparison!
I now have plowed up snowbanks that are nearly 8' high, and the snowfall has intensifyed even more. I'm quickly running out of room to plow! This is fun, but I hope we don't lose electrical power.
For you northern New England folks, I'm 8 miles south of Canaan,VT not far from the Connecticut River and Canada.
Ice and freezing rain bites the big one for sure.
I know this thread has little to do with woodworking so I'm going up to the woodshop to begin making a wooden snowscoop, like the one's my Uncle used to make. The kind that are made out of wood, with the pine boards beveled on the front to accept the aluminum cutting edge. Do you know the kind I'm talking about?
They were constructed such that they had runners underneath clad in iron for wear protection against the ice. I remember helping my cousin Skip apply wax to the runners. One time we put a finish on the whole contraption. I gotta tell you the snow slid off that thing like there was no tomorrow!
Snowblowers be damned!
The hot tub and a little bubbly sure hits the spot, tomorrow is another day.

Bob,
I didn't realize you were in that close to the Canadian border. Canaan's location reminds me of the fictional town in Mosher's "Northern Borders" -- have you read that?

Have not the pleasure of reading "Northern Borders" . Will be off to the library tomorrow to find it, if they're shoveled out!

Hi Andy,
I must apologize for not responding sooner.
Must have been caught up in all that's been going on here. Sounds like a must read, and will pursue.
Much appreciated,Bob @ Kidderville Acres

And we think we have it rough up here. I feel for you, shoveling all that much snow. It reminds me of when i was growing up in Mass., we would get storms like that sometimes. NO SCHOOL!!!! My mom didn't like it, but us kids did.
It's amazing how beautiful the snow is when all has settled. I sure wasn't thinking that when we got hit.
I'm sure some of you folks out there, particularly in the Colorado part of the country are used to seeing a lot of snow, not to mention those just east of the Great Lakes.
ptu - No problem with snow shovelling, Ol Reliable (Chevy 4x4 w/plow) helps a bunch!

My father-in-law has one hanging in his garage, I am pretty sure his father made it. Old yankees, throw nothing away.
I'm here in Chittenden County too. I'd say we got 24" to 30" totals.
VTAndy.. Where are you located.. I'm not far from the dredded "5 Corners". You know that town.
Hi GRW,
The snow in my back yard looks to have reached at least 2 feet. I just watched the neighbor's racoon cat do a tight-rope-like walk the whole way down our fence, looking desperately for "dry land" to jump down to -- then he turned around and went the whole way back. This is a lot of snow.
I'll email you off-list.
-Andy
It looks like we set a 24 hour snow total record in Cleveland, OH. I almost got my Toyota 4WD stuck in the driveway.
Life is what happens to you when you're making other plans .
How have you been, besides snow !! Come out to Thompson ! Had to use the front end loader on the tractor to move 5' drifts. Had to wade through waist deep snow to get tractor. Five hours on the tractor doing the neighbors and my drive.Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!
Bruce S.
Come on over to my place and do the driveway. I have not plowed my drive for many years as I just relied on my 4WD. I think I will have to get it plowed after this storm.
Can you give me a heads up when the new Freud Fusion P412 12" blade is available as I would like to get one for the Hammer.

Yeah, yeah, everybody's talking about the weather, but nobody ever does anything about it!

wow! We even had a little snow in Texas today. It was only 33 degrees though so no accumulation. I have to leave TX to see real snow.
I could box up some snow and send it to Y'all!
We used to get this kind of snow up here on a fairly regular basis in years past but this is a surprise to say the least. It's also a bit of fun too; I can play in the snow with the truck! Global warming has changed the normal, as we used to know it.
Guess Mother Nature is "slapping us up side the head"! It's nothing like the folks this side of the Great Lakes are experiencing though.

We had a high of 58 here in tucson today, thank goodness it will be back in the mid 70s by Saturday. Got a little chill looking at your pictures though! Good luck Bob. Chris
58°F must be a bummer!
I could handle that in a heart beat, having had -30°F at night up here in the past two weeks.
I guess it's where you're at. It's my home and I love being here. The wife enjoys it and that's what matters most. I, on the other hand would rather be in a warmer climate. Must do some negotiating, Eh?

58 is jacket weather once your blood thins out! I dont do 30, let alone -30! WOW.. Every area has it's ups and downs. I know I really envy you guys back east when you talk about local sawmills and the great deals you can find on domestic woods. Your pictures gave me a chill, but the thought of negotiating with my wife just made me shudder.(-60) Stay warm(er), Chris
I must thank ya'll for reminding me how I love FL.
Cold on Friday night, though. Forcast a low of 27. I'm thinkin' of movin' south.
27°F, that would be a heat wave up here!
This morning it's a balmy 0°F and the wind is whooping it up at +20! I can't see anything out the window!

Send it on! You can fit more snow in a shoe box than we have gotten in 5 years.
You're too funny man.
I'll post some pics tomorrow instead, if that's ok with you. Besides, it would most likely melt B4 it gets to you. I could sure use some of the warm you're getting down there!

actually it's not that warm today. It snowed on me most of the way to work this morning. I commute 50 miles so that is pretty good. It is suppose to get down to 19 degrees tonight. That's pretty dog gone cold for us southerners.
Holy smoly, you commute 50 miles!
I hope that's not each way. I used to commute that distance each way to work when I lived in southern New Hampshire. It got to be a real drag on my nerves after 2 years.
Now I live up north near Canada and the living is easy but COLD! The pellet stove and Jacuzzi seems to make it nice though.

Yes sir, that is one way. I put 98 miles on my car five days a week. I have been doing it for three years now. The worst part is the two hours a day spent driving, especially when I am working overtime, and only having 8 hours off between shifts.
Perhaps you might want to use the commute time to contemplate your next tool purchase, justification to the significant other or joinery task. Along with a hot cup of coffee or tea with the appropriate amount of natural honey, it migfht take the drudgery out of the long commute.
Cheers Man!

That may be the worst thing about it. I spend two hours a day thinking about the new tools I want to buy. I usually spend the time to call my dad, or my sister, and catch up on everything; hands free of course. I hate sharing the road with people that cant stay in their lane of traffic because they are dialing a phone.
I may be able to send you some heat today, I think the high today is going to be in the low 70's.
"I could box up some snow and send it to y'all."
Don't be so sure. My son is a cross country trucker and the last word I got was that the Interstate was closed!
The other day, I told my wife that I was getting tired of this global warming.
We had a snow here in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1997. Maybe that was 1979. No it was after I moved back in 1997. Pure covered the ground!
I hear that if you ski, it'll all be worth it. I don't ski, so would be miserable. Hang in there!

Hi fg,
My skiing is confined to cross country, so we're going to have a blast this weekend. I would have to say that my snowplowing skills have improved immensely! Plowed 14+ inches last night. When I left for work, we had another foot for my exercises tonight!
On a lighter note, last night was one of those times when you wished the camera was at the ready. The new collie pup wanted to go out for her duties. When I opened the door to the back deck she was met with a drift of snow much taller then her. She kinda woofed, backed up for a half dozen steps, than bolted for the deck with a magnificent leap!
COMPLETELY SUBMERGED! It was absoultely hysterical. You should have seen the look on her face, as they say PRICELESS!. It was her first introduction to snow, and not soon forgotten I'm sure.

I would love to have seen the pup and her first snow! As generally dignified and reserved as Boo is, he turns into a pup when it snows -- just loves it. Hi Bob
Yesterday and today were intense shoveling days for me. I removed all the snow on my roof, about 3600 square feet piled about 3 1/2 feet high. While I was doing it, I received a call from one of our superintendents on a job in California. He is also a Canadian, and therefore he gave himself the permission to laugh at my misery. (Yes, I carry my cell phone with me when shoveling) He told me it was raining softly and that the flowering trees were in bloom. All I see here as I look over the land from the vantage point of my roof is snow snow and more snow. If there are any flowers they are in my mind's eye. JL
Hi JeanLou and Bob,Isn't the snow spectacular, though? I'm loving it. And the clear skies on Friday were amazing.
-Andy
Yes Andy, wonderful. I was pushing it off my roof for a total of 12 hours in two days. Forgive me if I only smile a little and do not jump up and down in ecstasy. JL
