Can anyone give me a little background information on this grinder? It was my uncle’s (he passed away in 2001), he was a collector mostly of handplanes but, you know how it is, sometimes you must buy a “lot” of something and you get, well, a bunch of stuff you may or may not want.
What I can tell you is that the stone is 14-inches in diameter and 2-inches wide. The stone has some wear on the edges but I still think that it can be redressed. It says “Genuine Nova Scotia Stone” on the side and the bit of research that I’ve done, Nova Scotia seemed to be the place to get these stones. The sides of the well are, much to my surprise, made of wood and painted silver. I’m not all that certain how the tool mount works and there seems to be one thumbscrew missing.
I’m thinking that this grinder should be mounted on a table with the motor near the floor? Can anyone tell me its approximate age and value? I’d like to sell it, I already have a Delta Universal Wet/Dry Grinder that I’m perfectly happy with!

Lucky you ! I recently picked up one very similar to yours that will need a weeks worth, or more, of restoration. I'm guessing mine is late 1800's early 1900's and is a solid casting, no "applied" sides. I have the jet clone of the tormek and enjoy it, but a "sucker" for old Iron.
Thank you!
Thank you for a rough age of my grinder, that gives me a general direction to follow.
By the way, I believe that Tormek is Swedish. My mother was from Sweden so I just naturally get interested when I see a product from there.
Thanks again for the info, Janet

Mine is a 10"er and looks to be berea sandstone, same as the famous Michigan stones that were made into the foot powered drip grinders. That's next on my list so I can set it on my shop porch
Just a little "update!"
I sold this grinder to a gentleman making "wine wedges" for holding wine bottles at the proper "angle" out of woods from sustainable forests.
It was a pretty neat idea!
