Hi All,
I have been looking everywhere lately trying to find images of Wharton Esherick’s shop, tools, workbench, anything. I have seen his shop built bandsaw combo machine but that’s about it. I know his studio was at his house complex but I’m lost as to where he was actually building. I’m very curious to see how he was accomplishing his work.
Does anyone out there have any resources on the technical side of his work vs the just the work on its own?
Thanks

Funny you should ask, I just acquired 2 books about Esherick. One solely about him called 'Wharton Esherick Studio & Collection' and one that has a section on him called 'Artists' Handmade Houses'. I went through them for you, but no pictures of his shop or tools. There may be other books, but strike these 2 off your list. When I read the text and get any clues I'll update this.
There's a video somewhere out there, "Wharton Esherick Studio Tour." It doesn't really show tools, but does show where he worked.
Have you thought about contacting the Wharton Esherick museum located in his old studio? Here is a link to their website. https://whartonesherickmuseum.org/
They may have old photos or actual the tools. I had a visit to the museum scheduled but I had to cancel when they closed for CoVid. Hopefully they will reopen soon.
Thanks, I will try the museum. I just find it so odd that there is basically nothing on his process. I have seen one image of him using a big file on the edge of a cabinet. That's the best I could do.
The "Wharton Esherick Studio Tour" as well as a few other Esherick related videos are on YouTube. You might find something helpful there.
