There are a few threads expressing a range of opinions on that. The old Knots was an outside service running on proprietary software, and had (apparently) become too expensive to maintain. The new Knots is running on "open source" software, so it's "owned" by Taunton, thus better facilitating feature changes. There are, however, a few bugs in the current configuration that have yet to be addressed by the Taunton techs.
