I was trying to build a post & rung shaker rocking chair. Turned all the parts- steam bent the back post.
That’s the easy part
Next tried to drill for rungs- and then tried to rout slots for the slat back.
The trapezoid shape -with the splayed back post -120 degree- made a jig which was not near accurate enough to drill for the rungs but thought I could manage to get the rungs in the holes.
Then the coup de grace – Slat mortises – with the spayed back post and with my rigged jig I totaled out one of my back post with the router.
I for sure know that I haven’t a clue of what I’m doing when it comes to making chairs.
I would like some advise on building post & rung with slat back
Is there any good books out there with a jig for drilling and mortising?
Thanks

Kerry Pierce and Drew Langsner both have books that deal with the subject.

I just got one last month from Woodworker's Book Club called The Art of Chairmaking by Kerry Pierce. It is solely about shaker chairs. Well written and nicely photographed. I recommend it.

Chairmaking & Design by Jeff Miller. Covers a variety of chair styles from dowl to slat back to armchairs. Great how to book.
If you can, do a search of FWW. A few years ago Brian Boggs wrote an article on making such a chair. He's the expert. I'll try to take a look myslef if I find the time.

Its way more difficult than one would think. I just watched Norm build a rocker and couldn't belive all the jigs and angeled drilling. Good luck!
