I am wondering what cherry trees are worth on the stump. They have decent length saw logs in them and two feet or so on the stump average. None of them show rot or other serious issues. I ask the question for a friend who has no interest in having the sawn, drying, etc. We are in central ohio. Any and all advice greatly appreciated.

It depends on the diamenter of the logs if they would be good for carving. Check in the telephone book for woodcarving clubs. If you can't find any e-mail me back and I will look up some clubs for you.

Assuming about 18" diameter inside the bark at the small end of the log, a 10' log should yield 150 bf to 200 bf if using a band saw mill. 20%-30% less if using a circular mill.
What is green cherry bringing now at the mills? Maybe $2.00 / BF for potential FAS grade?
Probably half of the yield would be FAS grade. After milling and drying, you might be able to sell it for an average of $3.00 / bf if you can find the buyers.
Someone offering to buy the standing trees of the size you stated might throw out a 1st offer of $100.00 each. If they're hard to get to and they have to trim and stack the brush, then probably less.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info. It is as I figured and told her already. You aren't going to make a fortune as some others have told her. The woodlot hasn't been managed, is very hard to get at, and unless you are willing to put in some effort, there is no serious money in it.
thanks again
