12/4 Cherry is going for $18, $14.99, & $8 a bf locally in Northern Va.
Who is charging $18 b.f.? I get most of my wood from CP Johnson in Culpepper and they are $8 and generally have nice wood not much in the way of exotics or specialty items like matched flitches or live edge slabs but good general use local woods varieties .
Damn. Guess it’s not just here then. Wow. Almost doubled.
Lancaster County PA 12/4 FAS 6 -9" wide is $11/bf
12/4 rough is 9.10
4/4 rough 9"+ is 7.95
Everything is up. Crappy 2x4s at big boxstores are more than 50 percent higher.
Just checked here in Atlanta. 12/4 FAS cherry is $9.50. Dang...
12/4 rough is 9.70
Maybe we could get FWW to subsidize lumber purchases with all the non woodworking ads they’re getting revenue from while I’m paying for a monthly subscription.
You do realize that online advertising, unlike print advertising is usually not controlled by the website itself but by ad services like Google, hence you often see ads for things that you recently searched, asked Alexis or siri about or sometime it seems merely mentioned in conversation. It's a bit unfair to complain about FW ad practices when they simply work within the current system. And given the difficulty many publications have staying in the black in the internet age I wish those who complain about ads would consider the alternative, a world without publications like FW where we can learn, share ideas and in general grow our love of our hobby or in some cases our profession. I have subscribed to FW since the original B&W editions and am thankful for all I've learned and benefitted from my subscription over the years and hope they can continue to teach the next generation of woodworkers. If the price for that is a few ads so be it.
Yes. I realize this. And disagree with you.
What are disagreeing about? You can like, or dislike it, but those are all facts, not opinions.
Like John_C2, I wonder what you disagree with. As someone who recently retired from 37 years as a magazine editor (in a different niche -- computer technology), I can assure you that it's very hard for publications to survive. FWW's very pricey tradeshow is one way that they stay afloat. But the ads on the site are a combo of their ads and stuff Google puts there that they have no control over, other than providing the empty space.
Add 15% tax.
That’s in Canadian dollars though, correct? Where are you buying from? I’m located in Ontario. Thanks!
This is Bois Malo right outside of Montreal across the tunnel, I live on the south shore and its close by however Langevin & Forest On the Island has a larger selection and comparable prices. In Ontario I used to buy lumber in Manotick, wonder if the still exist ? Adams and Kennedy was the lumber yard .
Best deal around here (Boston area) is in southern NH. 5/4 cherry is $6-$7, 12/4 is $9 and change. White oak is about $1 more in both cases. Hard maple is cheaper: $5 and $6.5o respectively.
Go Highland!
