I like your Santa. I did get a couple of nice gift certificates for Woodcraft, I'll see how much damage I can do tomorrow :-)
Ray
Ho! Ho! Ho! You have a NICE Santa!
I finally got my ECE Primus Reform plane, a set of Collins miter clamps (& requisite spreader), a tropical hardwood marking (cutting) gauge, some credit card sized diamond sharpening plates, an Asian pull plane. and Taunton's Complete Illustrated Guide to Using Woodworking Tools. Oh, and I treated myself to a Hock spokeshave blade and made myself a little spoke shave out of osage orange.
Hope you got as many hugs as I did - best part of Christmas!

Jeff;
I lucked out with a new Craftsman 22124 table saw and a bench grinder. The table saw wasn't really a gift unless one to yourself counts. The inlaws got me the grinder along with some pliers and some face masks. I also got a gift card for lowes and some spending cash that will probably find it's way to woodcraft or rockler.
I got a JDS Air-Tech Filtration System, the new Veritas Honing Guide and a Miter Vise (the one in the Woodcraft Catalog). Plus, some cash from my mother-in-law so we can finally get the wiring done in our basement.
I really needed the filtration system, otherwise it would have been another Lie-Nielsen selection.
Happy Holidays.
And I almost forgot, my two girls (2 and 4 mos.) extended my FWW subscription for another two years.

Nice ones, Jeff. I feel totally blessed that a whole bunch of friends (one with a boom truck, showed up on Wednesday and finished my roof on the new shop in 6 hours. I am thrilled and its one of the most memorable Christmases I have ever spent. I did not know they were going to do this but was despairing of getting it done as I broke my arm 4 weeks ago. Now I can hardly wait to move in. Merry Xmas to all..... aloha, mike
Mike
That's great that you got your roof on. I know exacty how you feel. When I built my new shop 2 years ago, I was by myself, and completely overwhelmed by the size of the project. One of my best friends from high school (class of 82') had called the house, and my wife told him I was out back struggling with 20 foot steel panels by myself. 2 hours later, he showed up to help. And, he came back for 2 more days and helped me side the entire building. I was overwhelmed by his kindness and response. The first thing I built in my new shop was a fireplace mantel for him and his wife for their brand new home.
Take care of that arm, you only get 2!

Santa brought a Jet mini-lathe. I have done a couple turning projects on a friend's lathe and liked it. Thought I would ask Santa for something small to see if I really enjoy turning. So far the answer is yes. I have only "played" with it so far. But I can say turning is a bit adictive. I seem to like very much just playing with blanks and making different types of spindles.
This is a great gift....I am quite appreciative.
Thanks,
Happy New Year,
Cheatah
Thank you,
Cheatah
I got two squares. Six-inch and nine inch stainless blades, graduated in 32nd's, with brass and rosewood infill for the remainder.I also got a WoodRat and cash that will cover about three quarters of the purchase price of a DW625 plunge router to match, that I ordered today.Happy New Year to everyone!
Jeff,
Looks like Santa was very nice to you. Congratulations on some very nice new toys!!
He was REAL nice to me this year (does NOT necessarily translate that Jimmy was a good boy throughout the year.....):
Starret 12 inch combination square
LN dowel plate
Several books on hand tools, usage, and restoration
A complete set (32 1/2 quarters) of Russell Jennings auger bits in the nifty articulated box
2 old Preston spoke shaves
Spiers 13 1/2 inch dovetailed infill panel plane
The grin ain't stopped yet......

Wow! A spiers panel plane!!!!! I've always wanted either a Spiers or Norris. I bought a Norris A5 on ebay several years ago, but was lied to on condition. "Tight Mouth" my ear!!!!! I resold it, and got my money back. Maybe some day!!
Incidentally, I got a chance to shoot some miters yesterday with the miter plane. What an awesome plane. LN did it again, as far as I'm concerned. I was using an old bedrock 605 before. The LN #9 is awesome!! If you do a lot of miters, as I do, it really makes a huge difference in the final fit.
Merry Christmas,
Jeff
Jeff,
Glad to hear that you like the way your new #9 works. I've been eyeing that plane for a couple of years now, but don't (yet) do enough miters to really justify getting one. It sure looks like a really nice plane, though!!
<<LN did it again, as far as I'm concerned>>
I have a number of LN's planes and other tools, and have yet to be disappointed. As mundane as it might sound, they do exactly what they're supposed to do, right out of the box. What more can one ask for? As far as I'm concerned, I got what I paid for; I'm happy.
Anyway, congratualations again on your new toys!! If you get a chance, post a couple of photos of something that you make using them.
Looking forward to another year of fun in the shop!!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!
James
Hey Jeff,
Santa brought me a nice little Palm Z22 so when I'm standing in the aisles of my favorite tool haunt, I can look up what it is I came looking for in the first place. (They say your memory is the first to go?) A couple of HD gift cards that I will try to use to buy things I NEED rather than WANT. ITunes gift cards, Sopranos DVD's, etc......
Happy New Year,
-Paul
"They say your memory is the first to go?"
Actually, there are three signs that you are getting old. The first is that you lose your memory. The second is a .... ah, well a. Well anyhow the third thing is - what is, just a minute, um - a. Well, I can't remember those two other things.
How can you be UnclePaul? Several people call me Uncle Paul. Happy New Year
I got a Starret protractor, eight Bessey clamps, a couple design books, a set of LN scrapers, and the big prize: a LN block rabbet plane. It just looks and feels so nice! I can't wait to put it to work!
I got a Porter Cable 4212 Dovetail jig. Now that my normal post-Christmas cold is about to abate, I have plans to be in the garage tomorrow learning to use it.Dick DurbinTallahasseehttp://home.comcast.net/~olebiker/
A 608 Bedrock - the early one with rounded sides. So sweet that shavings start stripping themselves off of wood at the mere sight of it.
LOL. That's an excellent description. I've got an almost full set of bedrocks, and they all needed a lot of work before the wood started any strip show.
Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!!!
Jeff
I got a couple of great gifts from family and friends. First, my MIL stood in line at 5:30 a.m. and tackled a few grizzly men at HD to get me a new shop vac! That's love! I have a good friend that is a tool repair guy at the local woodworking machinery shop. He came by one night, hands me a Porter Cable tool case and says "Merry Christmas". Inside is a 2.5 HP Porter Cable router with a standard and plunge base! He said he finally got enough parts and pieces from broken units to put together a whole unit. We have a deal going - I make him stuff and he fixes and tunes my power tools when they need it. I think I got the better end of that deal.
And of course my wife got me the Veritas honing guide for jointer and planer blades. I haven't found a single place that sharpens well around here, and I ended up doing a pretty darn good job on my own bench plane blades and chisels, so I'm going to give it a try with the big blades. Should be fun!
Hi Jeff.
Looks like the holiday season was good for you, but even better for Lie-Nielsen....
Santa brought me a LN 4 1/2 smoother, a generous gift certificate to Amazon (i.e. Dado set)and a very generous gift certificate to Highland Hardware (likely turning tools)... I love that fat old bastard :-)
Cheers and Happy New Year,
Michael
On Christmas Day, I got a few small new tools, and the stomach flu. At 10 a.m., my six year old ran down the stairs to tell his mom, "Daddy's throwing up like a WATERFALL!" My wife made a turkey dinner with all the trimmings, but all I managed to get down was a bowl of ramen noodle soup. Bah, humbug!
But I got the best Christmas present I ever got, a week earlier, when my dad came down from Maryland and we exchanged our presents with him.
My mom died in July. She was a really good piano player. One time, she was offered a job in a nightclub at $475 a week, in 1951. That was 13 times my dad's Navy pay at the time; he said, "OK, you be the breadwinner!"
Anyway, after she died, my dad spent months assembling every recording of her playing the piano he could find, on old 78s, on reel-to-reel tapes, etc. Then he made two CDs of her playing, narrating every track so we'd know the background, and made his own labels with a photo of her at the piano.
Wow. I play them in my car, and I have both laughed and cried. Some of the original compositions are very cool, and I never knew she wrote the music for a children's ballet once. There are recordings of our family singing, of duets by my mom and dad, and a whole lot more. And his love of my mom bleeds out of his narrations. Unreal. Unbelievable.
He gave a whole new meaning to the phrase, "labor of love."
OK, son, hand me the plywood stretcher... Bill Bryan
Bill, WOW!! Those CDs are about as good a Christmas present as anyone could ever get. What a treasure. You're a very lucky man!James
Bill
I can very easily state with extreme confidence that you received the very best christmas gift possible. I'm very touched, and happy for you.
Happy New Year
Jeff
some one loves you a lot with that #9--where is the shooting board- just joking, I bought me a clifton 4 1/2, what a joy. all the best , paddydahat
Both of my shooting boards are UNDER the bench.
Merry Chritmas,
Jeff
Well it was a pretty good year, and I wuz pretty good...
Some mobile bases, JDS dust collect and an air filter, books (Of course), a nice bottle of Port (thank you SWMBOjr), Carhart double knee pants (since Lee Valley no longer carries their famous "supplication" pants, I'm giving these a try (stuff the foam pad in between the two layers). New PC and laptop and a Ruger Mk I. I think that pretty much finishes, oops, I got a bunch of Thorlo socks, the list.
With Laguna, Mini Max, and Legacy Ornamental Mill having their sales info as well as instructional chapters on VCR and DVD, Santa got me a TV for the workshop....
Bill
Nice gifts you got there. Nice clean bench you have, are you actualy using your workbench(looks like brand new, well cared for or just built!!!)
LOL. Actually, I built that bench 8 years ago. It's my second, and only see's hand work and plane work. All of my assembly, glue-ups, and finishing are done on my other bench.
Besides that, I flatten the top once a year by planing it, and it just got a haircut about 3 weeks ago, so it's looking all purty'.
Jeff
Didn't ask for it, but will use it--a Leigh FMT jig. Wow, what a surprise.Regards, Scooter"I may be drunk, but you're crazy, and I'll be sober tomorrow." WC Fields, "Its a Gift" 1934
As usual, I got an early present -- this year it was when the BesseyK's came on sale in...hmmmm....October? November? Hubby bought me four. Then Brian, bless his heart, posted that Pellet stove in the Northwest in the classifieds here. Wow! Really?! Can't believe it, it's sitting in front of the shop waiting for the final pipe-parts to get it connected to the woodstove chimney. Whoopeeeeee!
Cannot wait! Set that puppy at 50* and have the pleasure of walking into a warm shop in the morning, coffee in hand, no wrestling with wood and waiting for it to warm up. I are a happy forestgirl.
Oh, the other thing -- good sales at the sports cards/gaming shop. Pulled the business out of the path of the drain it was circling all this year. Whew.
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Let's see,
Estwing leather handled hammer.
7 Pony pinch clamps.
Irwing clamp set. (I think it is a set of 6)
Lee Valley scraper pouch.
$200 cash for tools of my choice.
Craftsman Safety glasses with L.E.D lights on the sides. (that one might get traded in for something else. (I wear glasses already, and I can't wear these too)
I had already bought a JDS 1.5 hp dust collector, and a Makita 12" sliding compound miter in December. Love them both. Might put the $200 toward another JDS DC for the other end of the shop.
Santa must be losing it- I received totally unsolicited a 12" hitachi scms - laser, digital etc etc- He must have forgotten the makita ls1013 given to me last year (which I love) My dilema do I keep the generous gift and utilize two scms or return it and purchase some other stuff that I also don't need but want I.E. festool plung saw, mft etc. - To compound the choice I stumbled across a rebate for a free 16g Hitachi nailgun- that qualifies with my present- what to do?
I got a LN low angle rabbeting block plane ........mumma got gold. I could have bought a lot of LN for the gold she got, but shes worth it. Oh...and I got a SIG Sauer P229 / 40. Ok so we are even. Life is good.............

You're gonna love the L/A rabbeting block plane. Terrific for trimming wider areas faster than a shoulder plane. Nice Sig, too. I've got a custom 1911A1 .45 built by Wilson Arms, with a Les Baer ported barrel. I absolutely love it, also. I used to do some competition shooting about 10 years back. Enjoy it!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

<< the SIG was customized...gold trigger, hammer and levers , wood handle and the slide was blued and the top engraved......>> I was looking at that...decidedly not stock...very, very nice looking; have you had a chance to launch any bullets out if it yet?<< Sant Loves Johnny!>> Yeah (s)he does!! And that LN block rabbit plane ain't too shabby either..... :-)
Oh yes.............I took it to the pistol range a bit ago. Truth be known, the wife knows I have my own ideas on what I want for Christmas and so I bought this a couple months ago. Its made here in NH so it has to be good right? Shoots very nicely. Has a feel to it that just makes you want to hold it. Nice firearm...............and the LN.........well what can you say about those tools other then then dont want to be put down either.Wicked Decent Woodworks

Cool!! I didn't know that SIG was manufacturing here in the US. (I knew that S&W was manufacturing Walther under license -- nice pistols but not as nice as the German-manufactured ones....I have an old German-made Polizei surplus PP in .32 ACP and a S&W-made PPKS in .380 ACP; no comparison in the quality and smoothness -- the German pistol wins it hands down -- shoots EXACTLY to point of aim at 25 meters.) <<and the LN.........well what can you say about those tools other then then dont want to be put down either.>> Couldn't agree with you more!
Wife got me a Starrett combination square and a sliding T-square/bevel guage from Veritas. These are to replace my crappy Craftsman and Stanley tools. I feel like I'm in the big leagues now!
I'm still a bit in a state of shock...

No place to put it either, but I have some time - it's still on the boat :-)

Jeff:
I got a Clifton 420 rebate plane which is sweet! I also got a clear vue cyclone dust collector. Perhaps the cyclone is not as glamorous as the plane but I am overdue for a dust collection system and perhaps I won’t be one of those guys who has to sell his tools because of respiratory problems.
Been doing woodwork for quite a while, but have been wanting to get into turning.Put the hint to Mamma Santa and low an behold under the old tree was a bunch of boxes with a bunch of gift certificates to woodcraft supply. So wood lathe welcome to your new home.Love that woman.
