Hope you all had a very merry Christmas. So, what new woodworking toys did you get for the workshop?
I’ll go first: My lovely wife got me an orange Fein 1800 3.25 plung router. I guess three months of leaving the brochure around the house and other not-so-subtle hints paid off. (She also bought my explaination of why I needed the Fein when I had two other routers.)
I’ve only had a couple of minutes to play around with this dude, but it is sweeeeet!

Both my wife and I got the same thing for each other, a baby girl! Born 12/28 at 1:40 am 8 lbs 9 oz.
My heartiest CONGRATULATIONS, to you and your wife!
Enjoy her growing up to its fullest. It goes by so fast and soon she'll be "all growed up" and out on her own.
I know this well - my youngest, a boy, is now 16 and almost there. My older boy is 27 and serving with the Oregon National Guard in the Sinai on the MFO. My 2 girls are 34 and 32 with families of their own. My oldest grandchild is already 12 and I've got step grandchildren even older than that.
Cherish her every day and watch her learn, watch her build her world as you guide her. You have one of God's greatest gifts, but she is yours for only a little while. Make the most of the time you have.

Congratulations.... Enjoy while you can. They grow up to become teen-agers. At that point you'll understand why they created the Federal Witness Protection Program. ha..ha.. just kiddin' ( or am I ), you'll see sooner than you can imagine.
Seriously, enjoy while you can. They grow up quick and you only get one chance with each child.
Much luck and happiness with your new GIFT..

I know what you mean I currently have a fourteen-year-old girl in the house and she is DRIVING ME NUTS sorry for shouting but boy can she push my buttons. She’s a sweet kid it’s just the teen-age thing I can’t deal with. Anyway I still have my little peanut she’s 18 months old and it’s a wonderful age.
Have a happy and healthy new year,
Rickl
I thank you all for your kind words and congratulations! We are finally recovering from our 35 hours of labor! Ugh! My mom is here to pamper us as we try to recover from that. It sure is nice having her here at our disposal. I think she's the happiest grandma on the planet.

Congradulations.
I know how you feel and what you're in for. I have an amost 4 y.o. My number one tip to new parents is any time, any place, any surface - grap 10mins sleep whenever you can.
My big woodworking gift was a Senco Brad Nailer, the FinishPro25XP. 5/8" to 2-1/8", slight and medium head brads. I've got a current project, building bookcase doors to install in a crawl space doorway for a client, and the nailer will come in handy to do the installing. I'm very pleased with it.
I also got a portable air tank and 40' hose, with fittings, to allow use of the nailer on site jobs.
Smaller gifts were a router table insert plate (the round one) and a set of router guide bushings from Lee Valley. Included was an inlay spacer ring to fit the 7/16" bushing that works with a 1/4" spiral upcut bit. I will likely try some inlays eventually, but I really got this to do mortises and tenons, using templates.
If you think about it, a tenon is just a really deep inlay into a mortise. I'll be building a jig for the purpose. I can cut the mortise with the collar on and the tenon with the collar off, using the same adjustable template for both. For the tenon, you just buzz around the outer edge of the template opening. For the mortise, you buzz the entire template area. Clear as mud? Good!
As I build the jig, I'll try to take pictures and post them along with design drawings. Perhaps that will make things clearer.
I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and I wish all a very Happy New Year!

A Lie-Nielsen # 7 Jointer Plane topped my list of gifts.
It looks like it's on the bed. Are you sleeping with it?

She's really sorry now that she gave me that plane.
I got a LN 073 large shoulder plane (from a brother-in-law sort of), a Lee Valley #80, a Sorby mortise chisel, and a couple of 50" K bodies.
I just went and searched my entire bed, though, and i can't find a LN #7 anywhere! Wonder where it could be?
After 9 years of "hinting", I finally got what I wanted for Christmas: A Delta Unisaw.
Not too bad considering that I asked Santa for clamps (you never have enough). The drawback is that I shouldn't expect a birthday or anniversary gift for years.
Still moving things around and setting it up, but I can't wait to use it!
A Unisaw!Wine is God's way of capturing the sun.
Woodworking gifts were a tenoning jig and a Freud safety dado set. Good to go with my President's Day gift of a new Delta contractor's saw. Other hobby was taken care of by a new hockey jersey of my beloved Hershey Bears.
Always nice to get tools for Christmas!!!
My wife and I do the "Twelve Days of Christmas". One gift a day for twelve days then a big one on Christmas day. It was Rockler Christmas at my house she went through the catalog and bought all kinds of stuff. Mostly small shop tools and the such. But Hey! She's lookin' in the right place. I'm going to make a point to leave a few Garrett Wade catalogs out for her next year!
I got a combined total of $200 worth of Tool Crib gift certificates, so I can buy whatever my heart desires. All of my family members know that a gift certificate for any woodworking store makes me smile. Just haven't decided what I'll use them for. Thinking of putting it towards a Jet or Delta mortiser. Any advice on which one? I've used them both, and I'm leaning towards the Jet. Also, Happy Holidays to everyone out there. Hope the upcoming year is a good one for all.
I have a wish list compiled on Amazon.com that specifies my desires in the woodworking vein. When people ask me what I want for Birthday/Christmas etc I simply direct them there. It worked very well this year as my wife's parents :-0 got my a Bosch 1617EVS router. This puppy had been on the list for quite a while. Very nice Machine

Does your wife have a sister?

I didn't get anything. Please send me one of the routers that you're not using. My router is borrowed from my dad and it's only 1/4"!
