A finial, perhaps?
no, but it incorporates a finial in the center. on a high boy it is called a 'bonnet', but i think it is called something else when it doesnt go from the front all the way to the back.
I think it's still considered a bonnet.
The molding are goosenecks, or swan necks. and there is usually a finial or a cartouche in the centre. The older I get, the better I was....
great, any idea were to get some pre-made? thanx!
Oooh. That's a tough one.
if anyone would have any "available" - that is not special-order/custom it would probably be Enkeboll: http://www.enkeboll.com/products/index.php?cat_id=ARC,KEY,CRWThe older I get, the better I was....
I'm afraid you may have to get out the carving tools on this one; I've never come across a pre-made acroterium. It is a fairly unusual item.
thanx for your time anyways!
I believe the word you are looking for is "Acroterium" according to Wallace Nutting, and he knows these things.

i finally figured it out, i am looking for a 'crest'
Have you found a source for pre-made ones? I assume the term "crest" is what googled successfully? I guess these days, what works on Google is the most useful term.
i happened to come across the name while looking on van dyke's.com
