Does anybody know what is with the Record company? I have been searching for a couple of their bench vises with no luck at all. The message I get is that the line of vises have been discontinued.

Woodcraft still shows Record vises in their print catalog, although not on their web site. Give them a call and see what they have.
I do remember a recent news release to the effect that Record was going to stop distributing in the US, or that they were going out of business, or something. Even if they're going out of business, that shouldn't be an issue on a vise. Its not like they need replacement parts.
Looks as though Record bench vises are a thing of the past. Record was aquired by American Tool about 1998 and American Tool was then aquired by Newell Rubbermaid in 2002. You might try emailing American Tool at http://www.americantool.com for verification.
You can still find them on Amazon. I'vs gotten pretty used to their vises and would miss having one in my shop. Of course, I'm between shops right now & don't have a bench or a vise at the moment. My first was a 52 1/2 D (best in my opinion), last was a 53 (a little big for my taste) - both great vises I thought.
What I miss are the Record bar clamps - nicely made - classic tools.
Mike,
The foundry in the UK has been shut down, apparently over environmental concerns and ageing equipment, as I understand.
They're currently looking for a source of castings elsewhere - they have a plant in South Africa. Maybe there?
Cheers,

Oh geesh!! I've always planned on mounting A 52 1/2 when I build my "real" bench. 'looks like I better hit the stores and try to buy one today.
Thanks for the heads-up, guys!
