I am new to using lacquer and want to get a good quality resperator. Is supplied air worth the extra cost? What about full faced verses half? Are most brands ok?

Hey Guppy
The local 3M rep. is going to give me a demonstration of the "Breath Easy" system next Friday. I'll let you know what I think of it.
Hold on to your wallet though, it costs more than my first table saw.
Tom
Please follow through with your thoughts on the 3M product. I'd like to know what you think.
Most metro areas have at least one store devoted to industrial safety items -- including respirators.
If you tell them what you are trying to protect against, they can look it up for you and advise you which of their products will be appropriate.
I like to buy from such a local outlet, primarily because respirators have disposable filters, and if you buy the whole set-up from them, it is never a problem replacing parts.
I use a mask made by Willson. Our local safety supply store sells them, and I think you can get them off of the internet. The mask has two canisters attached, and you can change the inserts for the type of work you are doing - sanding, finishing, etc. It fits nice around your nose and mouth, and has a "headband" similar to what's in a hardhat. Its more comfortable than I just made it sound. I use the mask with safety glasses and earmuffs, and nothing seems to get in the way.
Hey Guppy,
I was in a bit of a hurry this morning when I mentioned the 3M system. I didn't have the time to mention that I am currently using an MSA mask.
Safety and Supply Co. has a local store in my town, and they carry, 3M, Wilson, Scott, and MSA. I tried on all of them and found the MSA to fit the best, feel the best, and doff and don, most conveniently.
It's important that whichever brand you choose, that you have a ready source of cartridges and filters of the type you need.
The advantages of the 3M breath easy, positive pressure system, are comfort, convenience, efficiency, and performance. So I thought I'd check it out.
Tom
