Hi, I am wondering what to call a piece of furniture that sits in a hallway, has a bench to sit on, a back that is 7′ tall with elaborate scroll work and a bank of drawers going up both sides. It is probably arts/crafts style. Any info would be appreciated. I also have another question. I built a shaker style table out of cherry with a Watco Danish Oil finish and Briwax on top. What would be used to clean something like this? Any input on this would also be appreciated. Thanks

Either a Hall Settle (usually more like a high back bench) or a Hall Tree. See this thread also: http://forums.taunton.com/tp-knots/messages/?msg=13653.2

Ken, what is on your cherry table that it needs to be "cleaned?" For just a light cleaning, use a damp cloth, well-wrung out, and dry thoroughly afterward. If it's gotten some kind of grime on it that's gotten into the wax, use mineral spirits, which will remove the wax too, and re-wax.

Thanks for the reply. The table doesn't really have any dirt on it, but my girlfriend thinks that something like "Pledge" needs to be sprayed on furniture. I've heard that is not a good idea, especially on something without a topcoat, such as poly. Thanks again.
Nah, you don't want to spray Pledge or any other modern furniture treatment on the table. Hope you can talk her out of it!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
