I know I’ve seen this several times, but can’t find it right now. What is Sam’s formula for his finish? Thanks.

Alan, the reason being that is that it is
i Mr. Maloof's
formula. I do believe that Jeff Jewitt has a "Maloof" formula if my memory serves me. Perhaps he will see your question and confirm this or you could go to http://www.homesteadfinishing.com and ask Mr. Jewitt directly. Hope this helps.

*Alan,It's not a private formula. Sept. 83 FW -3 coats at 2 day intervals. Equal parts of poly varnish, raw tung oil, and boiled linseed oil."I then apply a final coat of a mixture I mix up on a double boiler: a half gallon each of tung oil and boiled linseed oil, with a couple of handfuls of beeswax grated in. Do this outdoors and be careful-linseed oil has a low boiling point."Scott
*Would that be on page 55?Dano
*Dano,Yes.Didn't realize full footnotes were required on quotes. :)Scott
*Scott,Well, there has been a brou ha ha of late.....any who just a little tug o' the chain...b ;-) hadn't seen a post from you in a tad....Dano
*Dano,Been practicing that zen koan, "better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and to prove it.":)Scott
*keep in mind that the "hidden" part of Sam's formula is in the preparation for finish. His attention to detail and surface prep is really the key. The difference between 220 and 400 under lacquer or shellac is not particularly noticable, but under an oil finish, it's night and day.SB
