I’m re-paneling the sides of my hot tub with clear heart redwood. I’ve made the new paneling much nicer than the original and I want to keep it looking that way for a while. Plus I’ve put in a lot of time resawing, planing, ripping and routering and I want a finish that will highlight my work.
I was thinking some kind of oil because I don’t want to have to worry about the kind of upkeep one would have on a boat with brightwork. I have some teak oil and it looks okay but it doesn’t do much for grain highlighting. Some of the redwood has figure that I plan on placing on the front and I would like that to pop if possible.
What finish could satisfy my wish list? Or am I just dreaming?
Thanks,
Julie

I used the Penofin, applied in August. I followed the directions exactly. The wood on the siding is still holding up well but the wood on the steps, not so good. It had absorbed a lot of dirt and was no longer beading water. I sanded the step treads yesterday down to bare wood again and applied another coat. Let's hope this one holds through the winter.
