Please don't take offense, but the first thing I thought when I read your post was "stolen tools". I was just about ready to post something to that effect and then I looked at your profile. I think you're a straight shooter and I will try and give you some advice to get the most you can for these tools.
There is a section here called classifieds. If you can take and post some digital pics, that would be a good place to start. However, if you post here, you'll have to set a price. The other option is ebay.
If you try ebay, do your best to take good clear pics and take the time to list a good inventory. It would be more work to do it one tool at a time, but that could maximize your profit. One option is to find a friend with "ebay experience" and give them a cut to do the posting.
Good luck.
thank you Jim i have sold a lot on ebay , i do have a digital camera, and you are probably right . to sell separately . but i have talked with Lee Richmond he has seen the pictures of them and wants a price. it is a lot of hassle especially when some one
complains about the condition and give you bad feed back with out any notice.
i will be talking with Bill Phillips in the next 2 days and see what he thinks . thank you .... GMC
GMC, I think the first thing you need to decide is if you want maximum money out of this lot, or just to make a decent profit and not worry about the actual value to the next person.
If you want maximum value, eBay is really the way to go. Or, research each item, most especially the moulding planes, and come up with a package price acceptable to a collector. Whether the drill bits and chisels will fetch any kind of a price is very dependent on wehther they're unusual or of exceptional quality and condition.
If you're willing to just turn the lot over for a decent profit and let the next guy do the hard work, then use a multiplier for your profit and set the price.
I sell, occasionally now, on eBay also, so I know it's a hassle. If you don't want to risk it, you'll probably have to settle for a considerably lower price for the lot you're selling.

GMC,
The best place I have seen to sell tools is Woodcentral.com. This site is use almost
exclusively by woodworkers, and they will know what you have, it's value, and if the
price you are asking is right. It's also the fastest selling response that I seen.

I see your from Central Illinois.
A group called the Mid-West Tool Collectors Association has 6-8 shows/year around the Mid-West where their members sell or show their old tools (mostly woodworking). They had a show this fall in St Louis and have one next spring in Peoria, Il
I don't think they have a web site but I have a membership application I was getting ready to mail off to join ($25/year). see contact below.

thank you i didn't know that. im leaning to a one shot deal on ebay with every thing at once....
eBay.
There is a large community of tool buyers who go through eBay and will bid on items until they are offering more than a new tool would cost! I see this often and can only think that there is an unlimited supply of stupid people out there.
Break up the collection into lots if you can. If it is a tool box collection, sell it as such. One went last week for a little over $2500, which was about the retail value of everything in it.

thank you e-bay maybe the way to go
Hey GMC
how about post some pics to whet our appetites, maybe I or someone else might make you an offer you can't refuse. That way you don't have to set a price like you would if you post it in classifieds. If nothing happens no harm no foul and we all get to see a nice collection
email me at [email protected] i can forward you pictures i don't know how to post pictures..
