Wenge is a tropical hardwood from Africa. It has a chocolately black color with lighter brown streaks running through it. I just did a google search and came up with several links to sites that sell it and provide scientific data, including this one.
My opinion has always been to use woods like this for accents and highlights rather than entire pieces of furniture.
