What method and paint materials will mimic a nailpolish finish on wood?
Hello,
I want to restore wood furniture and give it a look that seems as if it was finished in a high gloss smooth bright nail polish color. can you tell me the technique to use and the type of paint?
thanks.

Piano Lacquer and Auto Finishes
The classic high gloss finish for wood, think pianos here, was lacquer.
For exotic colors you probably will find that you will have to go to automotive finishes which I know have been used on wood but I don't know how well they deal with wood movement. I suspect that you will get the best long term appearance by applying the finishes over very stable woods and plywoods and MDF which don't move as much as solid wood panels. I do know that high gloss finishes will show every little flaw in the underlying surface so meticulous prep and sanding between coats will be needed.
I would suggest posting this question again under the finishes section of Knots, with a bit of luck someone with some real experience with this might answer.
Jeff Jewitt at http://www.homesteadfinishingproducts,com used to offer custom tinting of waterborne finishes.. Be sure to get a finish that does not yellow with time.
Maybe I am misreading his question, but I am presuming that he is looking for "Candy Apple Red" kinds of colors, not a wood tone.
electric guitars
I've never done this myself, but you might try to research the finishes that have sometimes been done on electric guitar bodies (often maple).
An excellent suggestion.
David,
An excellent suggestion, wish I had thought of it.
