I received some old furniture that I just started to refinish but the fronts of all the drawers are chipped. I want to get some veneer to fill in the chips, but have no idea what type of wood veneer this is made of. It’s a 60’s Sears Harmony House dresser and nightstand. Also does anyone know what the white specks in the grain are? I just stripped the old yellowed finish off and haven’t sanded yet, but I didn’t plan on more than light sanding with 220 just to clean it up a bit. Thoughts?

Looks like walnut, very common in the 60’s, applying a bit of water to a corner should have it turn a nice brown. The white spec are probably just dust, see what happens when it gets wet.
I'd guess walnut too. Walnut gets lighter as it ages, so if you want to patch, it will take a little blending.
thanks!
